The World Are Welcome to Join as the Extra Haim Sisters Bandmate.

"Any idea when you're chatting with Haim?" an inquiry arrives. "I wanted to ask if I can join as their extra sister."

There's just a single issue: I also desires to be Haim's additional sibling. What's more, we are not alone. Multiple high-profile admirers have openly coveted the role.

One thing is obvious an irresistible appeal is happening. Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana began their career doing sets at neighborhood delis with their family. Presently, they stand as multiple Grammy hopefuls.

Like all the best bands, they're a tight-knit trio. Their videos repeatedly depict them striding in harmony down the streets of Los Angeles. During performances, they play with such pure joy you find yourself thinking, "I wish to be involved in that, too."

"How often on tour that audience members approached us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I picked up a drum kit'," says Alana, the youngest of the trio. "That's the biggest honor. That is recognition in itself. We've done our job if we can inspire young girls to start a band."

"And thus all gets an invitation to be the fourth part of the family."

Award Nod

The band are speaking from home, where they're recovering after an lengthy tour in support of their latest album, I Quit.

They're currently reeling from the news it's been in the running for a top rock honor at the Grammys – with Haim the pioneering female band ever in contention for the trophy.

"I follow the announcements every year, so it kind of feels like a surreal movie when your name is called," explains Alana. "I needed to phone my sisters to say, 'Did we just hear this correctly or am I hallucinating'?"

The significance of the nomination isn't lost on the band.

"We really set out to make a guitar-driven album this time, so it's a huge step," continues Alana. "But we're just appreciative for the female artists that paved the way."

Personal Turmoil and Candor

The album came out of a time of personal change. All three sisters ended up single, and the music inhabits that odd transitional period where you're glad to be free, but not quite ready to move on.

The words follow endings and goodbyes. The sisters want love, but not the kind of love they've got. You can hear them working out in real life who they aspire to be.

"That's a perfect description, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a personal statement. You have to consciously practice ignoring the outside opinions and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Refinement of Style

That developed confidence demanded a different sonic direction – more unpolished and direct than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that began with the drum sound.

"Drums are such a specific thing, and I am so passionate about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our book," jokes Alana. "Our motto is, our albums won't commence until we find the perfect drum sound."

Stories and Collective Laughter

The trio's openness fueled the album's rollout, where the sisters revealed some of their romantic horror stories.

A former partner broke up with Este over a medical concern. Alana shared a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a friendly slap at midnight.

"When you're going through these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's no light," explains Alana. "Thus to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Legacy

It's not difficult sense a change in the band. Today, Haim are more assured of their place in the industry.

They're festival headliners, with successful albums and an worldwide fan base.

Yet the sister act will forever be their number one commitment.

"My sisters and I have been performing since I was four," says Alana. "It feels as if nothing else that we were destined for. And I'm really fortunate we've gotten here and we're still kicking."
