Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks his maiden title since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
His retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.
The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
