The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
